How we compare — in full
Trust should be earned, not asserted. This page sets out exactly how we build comparisons, calculate savings and protect our independence.
Our comparisons are only useful if you understand how they're made. The process below applies across every category, so you can judge our work on consistent terms.
Define the comparison set
We decide which plans and providers to include for each category and document the inclusion criteria. We're explicit that this is a selection of the market, not the entire market.
Establish a consistent baseline
Every plan is measured against a sensible, like-for-like baseline — a regulated reference price for energy, standard speed tiers for NBN, cover tiers for insurance — so comparisons aren't distorted by headline discounts.
Score on transparent factors
Plans are assessed on price, key features and a rating drawn from consistent inputs. The same factors apply to every plan in a category, and any referral relationship is excluded from scoring.
Calculate estimated savings
Savings figures are estimates based on moving from a typical baseline plan to a competitive option. We label them as estimates and explain the assumptions behind them.
Review and timestamp
We review pricing and plan details on a rolling cycle and timestamp each comparison. When a provider changes an offer, we update as soon as practical.
Disclose how we're funded
Where we earn a referral fee, we disclose it and ensure it has no bearing on rankings, ratings or editorial. Our commercial relationships never buy position.
How we handle independence
Modern River Point may earn a referral fee when some providers gain a customer through the platform. That revenue keeps the service free to use. To prevent it from influencing what you see, we separate our commercial relationships from our comparison logic: scoring factors are fixed in advance, applied equally, and exclude any commercial arrangement.
Where we don't cover a provider or plan, we'll say so rather than imply the list is exhaustive. No comparison platform sees the entire market, and we think it's more honest to be clear about that.
About our estimates
Savings figures and calculator outputs are estimates designed to help you compare, not quotes. They rely on representative assumptions about usage and pricing that won't match every household exactly. Always confirm the final details directly with a provider before making a decision.
Nothing on this platform is financial advice. It doesn't take your personal circumstances into account. Consider seeking independent advice for decisions that materially affect your finances.
